This documentary about the Midwestern Driftless region was produced by Untamed Science and the Mississippi Valley Conservancy in 2013. The Driftless in Illinois program by the Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical Society and Museum presented the documentary to students throughout the driftless region in northwestern Illinois.
Landmarks Illinois, in partnered with student filmmaker Catalina Parra, created People Saving Places: the Underground Railroad in Illinois. This inspiring short video focused on the Underground Railroad in Illinois in an effort to illuminate this part of our state’s lesser known history.
Against the Tide takes us back to the earliest days of Illinois College, when its first president, Edward Beecher, brought his young wife and family from the culture and refinement of Boston to the “wild frontier” of Illinois. Beecher finds himself taking a leadership position at the fore of a rising tide of abolitionist sentiment. Pushback and protests from slavery supporters become riots, ultimately leading to violence in this world-premiere play by local historian, Tara McClellan McAndrew.
